Thank you for your question. It's a good one. These rocking chairs are really not meant to be used outdoors. And it's not because of the hardware, it's the finish that is on the wood. With the temp fluxuations that happen outside, it could cause the finish to flake off as it will cause the wood to expand and contract. This doesn't happen indoors as the humidity and temperature are more regulated. If you wanted to take it out on a clear day to sit and rock and enjoy the day, that would be fine but we don't recommend leaving it outside for a long period of time.
